In Episode 18 of the Nerdlab we will talk about AI which stands for artificial intelligence. AI is a form of intelligent agent that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of successfully achieving a goal. While this is also a huge topic in computer science, we will only focus on AI in board games. Sometimes this is also referred to as Cardboard AI. Today I will share with you my 5 Design Principles that can help you to create the appropriate AI mechanic for your game. In addition to that, I also will explain the five different levels of AI and give you a whole bunch of examples of AI implementations.
In today’s episode, you will learn:
- Why and when does a game need an AI?
- What is the purpose of a cardboard AI?
- What are the design challenges and design principles?
- How to design an AI for a board game?
In addition to that, you will be given a whole bunch of examples, game mechanics and different implementation possibilities. So to make it short. At the end of this series, you will have everything you need to create your own evil mastermind for your game.
